Millstream Construction Case Studies: Incorrect Decking Materials Repaired on Cheshire Home

Friday, December 16th, 2016 by Chris Gonsalves

During our inspection of this New Haven county home we discovered that the roof deck felt very compromised, surprising because the owners of the home had no leaks to report. Upon further inspection it was determined that the decking used by the previous roofer was neither up to code nor safe to install on the home.

After stripping the old shingles off the roof, we installed all new CDX plywood to meet code and safety requirements on the home, from there we installed an Owens Corning Total Protection Roofing System in Onyx Black. Decking is the foundation of the roof, just like the foundation of a home it is critical that it is in good shape and passes inspection or is repaired/replaced if it's not up to par. This is the main reason we get many calls is to re-roof structures that have had layovers done to the roof, you may save a few hundred dollars but in the long run removing the old roofing material is in your best interest.
