Roof Replacement Case Studies: Old Victorian Slate Removal

Challenge

An old Victorian home in Hartford, CT needed to have a layer of slate removed from the roof of the home. This kind of work is rare to have done on a Victorian like this!

Solution

The project required to remove a layer of the original slate and have it replaced with a new layer of Owens Corning Trudefinition Duration shingles. We cut out 2 1/2″ on both sides of 3 dormers and front porch at the roof line to allow removal of shingles and flashing and installation of new underlayment and flashings.  After all this was done on certain sections of the roof we installed Primed 1 x 2 1/2 board to fill in the areas that were worked on. The entire project was a complete success.
